With More Types of Rooflights on the Market than Ever, What Rooflight is Right for Your Project?

With more and more building and construction projects and home renovation projects incorporating Rooflights, Skylights and Roof Windows we ask the question "What is the right Rooflight to choose and what are the benefits between the options"

We have asked 'The Skylight Company" to give us a quick run-down on the types of Rooflights and the main beneifts of each.

The first question you would be asking yourself is whether its a Flat or Pitched Roof that you are looking to bring in natural light through.

Pitched Roof Windows

Roof Windows are windows that can be installed into a pitched roof (Usually a roof between 15 - 90 deg) and are a reltively inexpensive option to install.

Companies like VELUX and FAKRO offer a huge range of sizes, finishes and glazing options.

Flat Roof Windows

Polycarbonate Domes - A cost effective option that will give you plenty of light. There are many sizes and ventilation options available, but if you want something that is a little more eye-pleasing then maybe continue reading!

Glass Rooflights - Stunning visuals, great performance but not ually a cheap option. You will need to create an upstand with a good pitch to ensure water doesnt sit on the glazing also! And these usually weight alot, so think about how you are getting it on the roof!

Flat Roof Lanterns - Usually seen as a little traditional or even old fashioned, Roof Lanterns are still a popular choice and have become slimmer and more contemporary which has seen sales in Roof Lanterns increase in 2019. Usually a well priced option, roof lanterns can really transform a room.

Sun Tunnels - Sun Tunnels that bring light through a specially designed reflective tube that enters in from the Pitched Roof or Flat Roof into the ceiling in your home. Tubular Skylights effectively transmit natural daylight to internal rooms or areas that do not receive adequate daylight. Natural daylight is captured at roof level and directed downwards through rigid or flexible tube.

So quite a range of options and with manufactures continually making products more thermally efficient and aesthetically nicer, all of these options will bring great results.
